The grain terminal is located in a seaport of Berdyansk. The terminal is intended for receipt of grain crops from trucks, rail cars and ships and unloading to vessels. As the site is located in a port and is restricted in area optimal layout of silos in 2 rows with 3 silos in each was chosen. The tender for delivery of steel tanks was won by "CHIEF Industries", as the optimal price/quality/manufacturing and installation period ratio was offered. Besides, thickness of galvanized sheets is especially designed to be operated in a seaport.
At the first stage of terminal construction cleaning and drying of grain is not foreseen, as it is planned to receive cleaned and dry grain. Grain stored in silos can be conditioned with application of aeration systems including perforated floors and centrifugal fans. Each silo is equipped with aeration system.
The direct reloading from rail cars to vessels can be done that results in time, power savings and shortening length of transportation systems.
All the inbound grain is weighed and tested in a laboratory. Grain laboratory is adjacent to truck scales. Probing will be performed manually at the first stage, but soon electric probe will be installed. The project is designed with possibility of further expansion of terminal capacity minimum twice.
The storage tanks are loaded from two central bucket elevators with 350 TPH capacity each. The grain can be supplied to the bucket elevators simultaneously from truck unloading station and rail car unloading station. At the top the inbound grain is directed with distributors and transported by upper system of conveyors to one of the storage tanks. All the procedures are automated. "Caldwell" loading and unloading chain conveyors are galvanized and are intended for operation in open air.
Truck unloading consists of one truck tipper, receipt hopper, special incline conveyor, capacity 150 TPH, and horizontal and incline conveyors.
The rail cars are unloaded into horizontal conveyor "Caldwell", capacity 350 TPH. Two rail cars can be unloaded simultaneously. The construction of the conveyor ensures that it will not stop even if the inlets are plugged with commodities. Further grain is supplied by inclined conveyor to a central bucket elevator and transported to the corresponding storage bin.

The central bucket elevator is supplied to the ship loading point by the central bucket elevator through bulk scales, capacity 400 TPH, chain conveyors, loading gallery and ship loader capacity 350 TPH. The ship loader, capacity 350 TPH, manufactured by German company "Neuero" ensures ship loading of vessels of DWT5000.
Taking into account real possibilities of further increase of capacity of the port facility and growing intensity of export operations it is expected that recoupment of the elevator construction expenses will take less time than planned.
